AFC Liverpool Win in FA VASE thriller.

AFC Liverpool are through to the next round of the FA Vase, after a gritty hard fought win at home to Dinnington Town.

Dinnington Town came into this game with a 2-0 win over Wigan Robin Park, whilst AFC liverpool notched up 3 wins and a draw from their last 4 games.

In the opening 15 minutes, the game didnt really live up to expectations, with one or two chances from both sides not really testing either keeper. In fact, it wasn’t until the final 10 minutes of the first half, that the game sprung into life. Some neat play by Karl Gornell and Phil Stafford saw the ball whipped in from the left, where Jack Sinnott was waiting to head the ball in the Dinnington net from what looked like an impossible angle.

With AFC Liverpool 1-0 to the good, Dinnington came out for the second half with a renewed determination. With the visitors now pushing for an equaliser, the game opened up, and made for some excellent creative play from both sides, although the final ball was still lacking from either team.  A tense finish saw AFC Liverpool take revenge for last years’ defeat at the same stage, and now go on to meet either Hallam or Penrith in the next round.

AFC Liverpool manager Paul Moore had this to say after the match: ” I am obviously delighted because it is the very first time AFC Liverpool have won an FA Vase game, and this result has now created another bit of history. I am happy for the people that run the club, and particularly the supporters. On the game itself, I feel as though it was a solid enough performance considering I had to make five changes to the team at short notice, and the lads that came in done themselves proud.”

Next round to be played on 2nd October 2010 at home.

Everyone at AFC Liverpool would like to extend a warm thank you to Liverpool FC matchday commentator George Sephton, who came to watch this match as guest of the club.
George told us that he enjoyed his visit, and would be back in the near future.

George has been commentating at Anfield for the past 39 years, and has supported us from the start by announcing our results during half time and full time.

Here he is pictured with our very own commentating legend Alan Harrison.
