FA Vase Preview
AFC Liverpool take a trip to the coast this Saturday as they take on AFC Blackpool in the FA Vase Second Round.
It will be the second meeting between the two teams at the Mechanics Ground this season with the Reds coming away the victors by two goals to one in the league fixture. AFC Liverpool fell behind to Ben Waddington’s opener but a Steven Jones wonder strike from forty yards brought them back on level terms going into the break before Aaron Stafford scored what proved to be the winner within two minutes of the restart.
Both sides have dispatched higher opposition in their previous two games to reach this stage of the competition, with the hosts having overcome local rivals Squires Gate and then Maine Road, whilst the Reds have defeated Dinnington Town and Hallam, both from the Northern Counties East League.
The hosts are currently one point ahead of AFC Liverpool in the league, having played two games less and Sky Bet’s odds reflect this with AFC Blackpool listed as favourites at 11/10, with an away victory for the Reds listed at 7/4. However, the bookies aren’t always known to get it right and with players returning from suspension and injury, new signings effortlessly integrating into the side and the squad in good spirit, Reds’ fans have cause for optimism that Monday’s Third round draw will have meaning.
