Norton United Preview

This Saturday AFC Liverpool welcome Norton United to Valerie Park.

Currently lying tenth in the league with nineteen points from thirteen games, the visitors come into tomorrow’s fixture having lost one and won one of their two games played this year. They went down 2-1 in the league away to Runcorn Town on bank holiday Monday but followed that up with a 2-1 win against Stafford Town of the West Midland Regional League in the Staffs Vase. Recently boosted by the arrival of forward Ashley Miller, who signed from Evo-Stik First Division side Leek Town, they will look to claim their first success over the Reds.

In the seven previous meetings between the two sides the Reds have won six, with last August’s league game the only time Norton have come away unbeaten. On that occasion, it looked as though they would take all three points until Leon Quarless’ last gasp equaliser finally broke Norton resistance after goalkeeper Leigh Miller had pulled off a string of saves to keep the Reds at bay.

AFC Liverpool will be looking to build on last weekend’s hard fought victory over promotion rivals Wigan Robin Park and could close to within three points of the top with leaders AFC Blackpool in cup action.

On a note of caution, with the return of the cold weather this week, there will be a pitch inspection at Valerie Park in the morning and the result will be posted as soon as it is known.

Kick Off: 3pm
Valerie Park, Hope Street, Prescot, L34 6ND.
Admission: Adults £5, Seniors £3, U-18’s £2
